4 Sushi Rolls for Beginners

When trying sushi for the first time, it’s important to pick the right one. The worst thing that could happen is you get something disgusting and it puts you off the food forever. Here are a few tips to help you become a great sushi fan.

1.    Err on the side of caution with a California Roll.

Made from crab meat, cucumber, and avocado, this roll has flavors that you probably are already comfortable with. It has no raw fish, and the seaweed is hidden inside the roll.

Try dipping it in some soy sauce or wasabi to get some extra flavor.

2.    Try Inari-Zushi for something a little more exotic.

If you’re really apprehensive about trying sushi for the first time, this is your best bet. There is absolutely no fish in these rolls. The “meat” is actually tofu that’s double fried and then boiled in a semi-sweet sauce.

3.    You can’t go wrong with Tekka Maki.

Who doesn’t love tuna? If you loved the California Roll, it’s time to venture into the world of raw sushi. Tuna is a delicate, sweet, and tasty fish that is sure to delight your taste buds.

Don’t worry, it doesn’t smell anything like the canned stuff you’re probably used to. Raw tuna has virtually no smell at all.

4.    Next step is Nigiri Sushi.

This is sort of the in-between of traditional sushi rolls and sashimi. It has more meat in it, but still contains the seaweed and rice to balance the flavor. If you were comfortable with the amount of fish in the other sushi rolls, this would be the natural progression for you.

Why not try it out now? Just walk into your local sushi place, stroll up to that seafood refrigerated display, and start exploring the delicious world of sushi.
